If you already advertise a room on SpareRoom or Gumtree, you do not have to type everything again. Signpost can import the advert and use it to fill in a new listing, so you only need to check and tidy the details.
How importing works
You paste the link to your existing advert, and Signpost reads the public details, such as the title, description and photos, then drops them into a new listing for you to review. You stay in control, and nothing is published until you say so.
Before you import
- •Make sure the advert is your own, or you have permission to use it.
- •Check the photos are current and show the actual room.
- •Have the correct rent and availability to hand.
What to check after importing
Imported details are a starting point, not the finished article. Review the rent, the availability date, and whether you accept Universal Credit or Housing Benefit, since those matter most to people searching. Add the support level or referral route if it applies. Our guide on writing a clear listing covers what to include.
Do not import private addresses
Keep full private addresses out of public listings. An area or postcode district is enough for people to judge the location. This protects your tenants and keeps the listing safe.
What to do next
- •Copy the link to your existing advert.
- •Use the import option when you create a listing.
- •Review the details, rent and benefit status.
- •Publish when it looks right, and update availability as things change.
